Howard Stern; Radio Legend
For anyone that is not already familiar with the radio talk show legend Howard Stern, they may have some pre-existing notions about the man that just aren’t true. For instance, while it is true that he can be a crass, lewd, and in-your-face radio personality, there is intelligence behind his banter that only other intellects that appreciate a “pull no punches” attitude and demeanor can appreciate.
Stern has amassed an almost cult following since the 1990s that can even be described as rabid. His loyal fans hang on his every word and understand that he is about much more than just curse words, lewd content, and naked women; he wants a change to the hypocrisy that is so prevalent in the United States government that many Americans have grown apathetic to. So while Stern is not a prim and proper conventional politician, the voices of his following grow louder each day as they proclaim incessantly, “Howard Stern for President!”
Stern has not yet publicly announced his presidential candidacy to the public, but it should be only a matter of time until he does. He has prided himself in sharing his views and voicing his opinions on such polarizing issues such as gay marriage, abortion, the Iraq War, and the War on Terror. Stern strongly believes that “desperate times calls for desperate measures” and is thus a strong proponent for sticking to his ideologies and the ideologies of his prospective constituents. He doesn’t mince words, he says what he feels, and he backs up his rhetoric with decisive and concentrated action.
While Stern has not yet announced which party, if any, he would adhere to, his past shows that he is strongly attached to Libertarianism. In 1994, he actively campaigned to run for governor of New York and ran on the Libertarian Party ticket. However, in his book Miss America, Stern admits that he knew little about the Libertarian Party when he decided to run, but he admired that they were “for less government and more individual freedom.”
Additionally, Stern has been known to rally his loyal listeners when he felt necessary. In the 2004 election, he took the time between jokes and banter to take shots at George Bush in hopes of swaying the popular vote to John Kerry. While obviously unsuccessful in that venture, one has to wonder how much of the voting power he did control in his repeated commentaries concerning the President who was running for reelection.
It is unclear when, if ever, Stern decides to throw his hat into the ring to attempt to become the next President of the United States of America. However, when he does decide that he is able to effectively garner enough of the American people’s support – which will undoubtedly be after they have become thoroughly disenchanted with conventional politicians – when the dust settles we will no longer be frustrated with a candidate that insults us with double speak. When Howard Stern runs for president, he will tell it exactly how it is.
